State Standards

Educational standards outline what students should know and be able to do in each subject at every grade level. In California, the State Board of Education sets these standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school.

Since 2010, many states have adopted shared standards for English and math, known as the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These consistent standards ensure that students receive a high-quality education, even if they move to a new school or another state. Developed by teachers, parents, and education experts, the standards aim to prepare students for success in college and their future careers.

The California Department of Education supports schools in helping students meet these standards. Below, you can find more information about the standards and related activities in California.
